When the buzzing of our thoughts keeps us up at all hours of the night and tense during all moments of the day, then we know we have a problem on our hands. That was exactly my case this week. Sometimes there’s just too many tabs opened in our minds to handle the day so we get overwhelmed and disoriented. If that happens to you this week, there’s an vizual exercise that might help. Get comfortable, close your eyes and imagine that you are at a peaceful place in nature. Release the weight of your body to the surface you’re on, there’s nothing to worry about, nowhere to be just here and now. Focus on the things you see, hear and feel around. Are there trees, maybe you see parts of the sky glimmering through leaves. Can you see some birds passing by? Maybe there are bees that you hear? Gorgeous smell of your favourite flowers? Concentrate only on the experience in that place. Each time a thought comes, gently turn your focus back on the moving objects in your visualization. It has to stay quite simple so it would be easy to imagine and I also wouldn’t recommend adding pets or any other animals that are bigger than a bird to avoid thinking about them. The main goal is to give ourselves a breather from the always buzzing highway of thoughts so the more peaceful the imagined portrait will be, the easier it will be to calm our minds. If it helps you can practice it every time you need a break from overwhelming overthinking.

A word of caution: this should not be used as a way to escape the reality, problems, emotions or anything else we might want to avoid, only as a tool to access clearer thinking in a time of overwhelm so please, keep it simple and keep it efficient.

Have a buzz-free week.
